Valentine games for church

Write the fruit of the spirit from Galatians on heart-shaped cards, one on each card. These include love, joy, peace, longsuffering or patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.

You can also use a contemporary version of the Bible to clarify what each word means. Divide those attending the Valentine's Day banquet into teams. You could create teams with men against women.

You can also divide by couples with two or three couples per team. Each team draws a card. The teams have five minutes to decide how best to act out the fruit of the spirit on their cards. In turn, teams act out their fruit. The team that makes the most correct guesses wins.

Have each person write down three facts about themselves their partner may not know. Do not add names to the cards. Place all the cards in a basket. One person draws a card and reads the facts one at a time. Let couples guess after each fact is revealed. The object is to see how much the couples really know about one another. This can be tied to a theme about God knowing those he created, faults and all, and he loves them anyway.

Love is always a great topic. I saw this idea on one site. Hugs can be refreshing or awkward. Be careful with this one. No one likes bad spaghetti or lame entertainment, but some churches make it work. It might be better to give every couple a copy and let them watch it alone at home. Do whatever you do well.
